I Too Have A Dream

There are many issues which are currently in our radars – from corrupt leadership and violent crime, to crippling strike action and greedy employers. Service delivery is seemingly on the shelf, even though many promises were used as calling cards during the elections. Our country seems to be in a mess.

So, like Martin Luther King jr., I also have a dream for my country:

I have a dream

That one day the content of one’s character will not be determined by the colour of one’s skin

I have a dream

That the everyday person will involve themselves in the politics of our day, with the aim of making our country better for our children’s children

I have a dream

That the elected leaders of our country live up to the expectation of their people, where money and position is not their motivator but the pursuit of creating a better life for all and who do not take their people for fools

I have a dream

That corrupt officials will be arrested and fired from their posts and qualified people of integrity will take their place, who desire to build this country

I have a dream today

That service delivery will not be a by-word but a constant stream of ever flowing action from our elected leaders

I have a dream

That employers will pay their workers justly and encourage them to dream beyond themselves to change the future of their families and this country

I have a dream

That our education system will aim to teach our students to look to themselves and their communities to create employment for themselves and not rely only on the employers to bring them hope

I have a dream

That our society will see that families are the foundation of our nation and aim to make families stronger so that our children do not experience the ravages of poverty and diseases

I have a dream

That one day we can move forward from using apartheid as a reference point of our circumstances, forgiving but forgetting and open ourselves up to embrace our brighter future. Then we can truly say

“Free At Last, Free At Last, Thank God Almighty, we are Free at last”
