GBC Is Confused – Randy Abbey

The host of Metro Tv’s Good Morning Ghana Show, Randy Abbey, minced no words in slamming the state broadcaster, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), in a discussion on today’s episode of his show. His damning of the GBC came on the heels of the issue of Television Licenses and the channels entitled to the revenue from these licenses. Mr Abbey threw these unmitigated jabs in a discussion with Panelists, Mr. Kwame Agbodza – National Democratic Congress (NDC)  Member of Parliament for Adaklu and Mike Ocquaye Junior of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to Mr. Abbey, GBC is not operating as a proper public broadcaster. According to him, the state broadcaster is involved in doing bits of everything and is more or less like a hybrid channel instead of what it is supposed to be. He indicated that, sections of the public who seek unbiased content are usually served by public broadcasters. But The GBC  is not focused  on doing this. He took his final bite at the GBC  with an emphatic statement that, now that TV licensing issues are coming to the fore; “the public broadcaster must behave like a proper public broadcaster.” New TV licence fees will take effect from August 21, 2015.
