Exodus

Let’s make a date, to meet in the middle of the Red Sea.

Our desire to be together will part waves, turn water into walls.

And in the center we will meet God at His table

And angels in aprons, serving manna for desert.

And the three of us will chat about how to love each other perfectly.

Within reach of a living aquarium.

With the dry seabed under our feet,

And you picking the pinks of coral reefs for me-

We will take ‘a walk along the beach’ to another level.

And in those hidden depths we will listen to the secrets of seashells

And store them in the pockets of our hearts,

So we will never lose them.

And when the date is over, we will walk onto the shore-

The waters closing behind us and God walking with us.

And if anyone asks why we left the pearls behind,

We will tell them, the most priceless things are the ones that breathe.

Because there’s something of a promised land in this love.

So we will name our first child Canaan.
