Betrayal

How could you say you had my interests at heart, How could you say you knew what I needed, How could you say you understood where I was coming from, If only I knew how you could betray that trust.   How did you know I would believe you, How did you know I would run after you, How did you know I would support you? If only I knew how to deny you.   You took the knife that I gave to you, And with a smile you stabbed me in the back with it, You took pleasure in my bewildered expression, For you knew once you had me, Your power would be limitless.   I await your return, For you always come back, I have gained a sense of power that you cannot take away, Though I may be wounded in our next encounter, At least I am prepared for your cowardly humility, For you need me to accept you for you to have power, I don’t need you at all – for I still live no matter how much you want me to cower. You betrayed my trust. You will reap the rewards. Fully. Wholly. Uninhibited. You will taste your own betrayal. Soon.
