AK47 Siezed By Police At Security Checkpoint In Talensi

Police have set up security checkpoints in Talensi and Tongo in the Upper East Region. By elections will take place today in the small town in the Upper East Region. A total of 40,000 registered voters are expected to cast their votes.

So far weapons like AK47’s and machetes have been siezed at the security checkpoiints.  Reports however indicate that the machetes may belong to farmers in the area who will be voting in today’s by elections. Police say that everyone including party officials will be search to ensure a secure election that is free and fair. Police have sent out a strong message to potential trouble makers to keep away from the voting stations.

Former Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Doaneng Nachinab Mosoore, has been enskinned as the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area. The Electoral Commission will hold the by election to elect a new MP for the area.
